E-Mail: [email protected] Abstract: In spatial statistics, Ripley’s K function (Ripley (1977)) is a classical tool to analyse spatial point patterns. Yet, it faces two major limits: it is only pertinent for homogeneous point processes and it does not allow the weighting of points. We generalize it to get a new function, M, which oversteps these limits and detects spatial structures of inhomogeneous populations of weighted points.

Spatial pattern of trees in forests reveals how trees interact with each other and their environment. Spatial structure of trees in forest ecosystems is affected by environmental heterogeneity that leads to their heterogeneous distribution. This study was aimed to investigate the appropriate methods to analyze spatial pattern of heterogeneous wild pistachio woodlands in Zagros, Iran. A 40-ha pu...
متن کاملSpatial Point Pattern Analysis of Neurons Using Ripley's K-Function in 3D
The aim of this paper is to apply a non-parametric statistical tool, Ripley's K-function, to analyze the 3-dimensional distribution of pyramidal neurons. Ripley's K-function is a widely used tool in spatial point pattern analysis. There are several approaches in 2D domains in which this function is executed and analyzed. Drawing consistent inferences on the underlying 3D point pattern distribut...
متن کاملHamiltonian and Brownian systems with long-range interactions: V. Stochastic kinetic equations and theory of fluctuations
We develop a theory of fluctuations for Brownian systems with weak long-range interactions. For these systems, there exists a critical point separating a homogeneous phase from an inhomogeneous phase. Starting from the stochastic Smoluchowski equation governing the evolution of the fluctuating density field of the Brownian particles, we determine the expression of the correlation function of th...
متن کاملOrdered, Random, Monotonic and Non-Monotonic Digital Nanodot Gradients
Cell navigation is directed by inhomogeneous distributions of extracellular cues. It is well known that noise plays a key role in biology and is present in naturally occurring gradients at the micro- and nanoscale, yet it has not been studied with gradients in vitro. Here, we introduce novel algorithms to produce ordered and random gradients of discrete nanodots--called digital nanodot gradient...
متن کاملSpatial and genetic structure within populations of wild American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L., Araliaceae).
Spatial structure and fine-scale genetic structure were analyzed for the medicinal plant American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L.) to more fully understand biological processes within wild populations. P. quinquefolius has been harvested for more than 250 years and is now considered threatened or rare throughout its range. Plants within four protected and four unprotected populations were signi...
